Before understanding how to write a hypothesis, it is important to know what is hypothesis. Actually hypothesis is the guess taken by any person or it is the suggested explanation by the scientists and scholars. Most of the time it is written by using three words that are,” if”, “then” and “this will happen”. It means the statement is written like” if i or you do this then what will happen”. Means they are giving an assumption that by adopting this that will happen. But both of these statement that “what if done” and “what will happen”, needs to be tested first thus it is called as testable hypothesis or scientific hypothesis. In writing the hypothesis one needs to follow certain steps. There are four main steps to write hypothesis. First step requires clearing all the queries and that queries can be solved by asking more and more question. Firstly collect all information related to the topic. It's better to raise all possible questions and then collect all possible answer. Because as much as back ground is clear then hypothesis will be more and more appropriate. Thus first step is to ask as many question as you can, either from yourself or from others. For this this yu can contact your friends and relatives to raise the question related to that issue. Now all the information is collected then next step is to make statement. For making statement one needs to know the “cause” and the “effect” of that cause. In second step the statement is made by merging the cause and effect. Here one example can as taken hypothesis like, “if I study then I will pass”. This is not a hypothesis but for explaining it can be considered, for understanding we will break the above statement into two parts. One part will be, “if I study” and this part is reflecting the cause or condition. The other part will be, “then I will pass”, this part reflects the effect of that cause. Means the second part is showing that what will happen as a result of the cause. Sometime the word “because” cane be added to link the two statements. The same example can be considered in this regard. Example can be written as, “I am pass because I study”.
Now in the third step it is required to make your statement general. In above statement as we consider “I” means it is specific to one condition or person. Now in order to make that general we will have to perform certain tests and experiments. If above example is written like, “One will be declared pass, if study”. The meaning and sense in both statements reflects to same cause and effect but now it's become general that can be universal and can be used for anyone, not only by you and i.
Writing the hypothesis is not a task to be completed in few hours, it requires a time and experimentations. After third step it looks that the hypothesis is complete but it is not like that, because the last and the fourth step requires a little more hardworking. In fourth step you need to raise more questions regarding that statement. Now we need to focus on each and every part of the statement. Now we again need to consider our same example, the question can be raised like. Which study? What subjects? How much study to get how much percentage? After fourth step your hypothesis is almost completed but little consideration are required in writing a hypothesis. These considerations are required throughout the process of writing a hypothesis.
Firstly investigate on whatever you desire don't be afraid that if it will be wrong. You will learn more, if you will make more mistakes. Secondly as many question as you can and try to collect all possible answers of a single question. One tip in answering the question is ask the same question with the people of all ages , by doing so you will get a variety of answers and that will help you in moving forward. Try to find out by yourself don't completely rely on others or on internet. You can take help but study yourself. Thus now it is clear that, how to write a hypothesis. |
